Calling All Sussex Writers!

Your chance to win a contract with a top literary agent

If you live in Sussex (and bad luck for those – like me – who don’t!) this is a great competition, only open to Sussex residents over 18 who have never been commercially published.

How to enter: Write a synopsis or brief description (500 words) of the novel you have written (or want to write) plus 1,500 words to show your writing style.

This might be the opening of the first chapter or a dramatic passage from any part.
An unfinished novel can win as the judges are looking for potential.

Entry costs £15 and all entry fees will be donated to The Whitehawk Inn, a Brighton-based charity focused on training people and helping them get into work.

The winner and holder of the first ever Sussex Writers Awards Trophy will be awarded a contract with a top literary agent.  The judges include Kate Mosse, Peter James, bestselling crime and thriller novelist and Louise Rennison, author and comedienne, perhaps best known for her Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series for teenage girls.

More information is available at:  or email

The competition closes for entry at midnight on December 1st 2010.
